Friends! Thanks for being a part of the Petey Sellers Secret Society. It’s been an honor and a joy to see this community grow as I’ve shared our journey, given out awards, and filled a little corner of the internet with dog pictures, pep talks, and, as always, lots of love.

In 2012, I went to the San Juan Islands for the first time. We stayed on Friday Harbor, and it was a trip so breathtaking, so full of whales and magical sailboats that it inspired a short story. And now that short story’s found a home in the About Place Journal, the When We Are Lost/How We Are Found Issue.

What happens when you make a list at the beginning of the pandemic called “How to Self Isolate A-Go-Go” but have an emergency appendectomy, instead? As it turns out, it’s not learning macramé!

We’ve always known this, but now it’s true more than ever: writers are nothing without our communities. Thanks to a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council, I’ve been able to work on a project that’s close to my heart, a middle grade story full of magic, humor, passion for the planet, and the hope that we can turn things around.
